Grab your machete its a jungle out there

Or more accurately a combination of mangrove, savanna and jungle. Taman National Bali Barat, or the North Bali National Park, is only a short car ride from the Adi Assri Hotel or a short boat ride when you're doing a snorkeling or diving trip with Sea Rovers Dive centre. But I digress.

North Bali is very dry area, especially here in the North West of Bali. Rainy season starts later, usually late November/December and doesn't get going till January even then we mostly get rain in the late afternoon and evening with maybe a couple of days bad weather. Then its finished almost as fast as it comes. This makes for very dry terrain below the mountains. The mountains themselves catch most of the weather as it comes from the south and thus stay greener longer.

So the Taman National Bali Barat has a lot of diversity when it comes to trekking. Black monkey as well as the normal grey macaque, deer, wild pig, a huge amount of birds, insects, lizards and the occasional snake. As I said the Bali National Park, which incorporates Menjangan Island (did you know Menjangan means deer?)is part mangrove, large part savanna and jungle. Depending on where you start and the length of the walk you can experience it all.

Trekking starts early in the morning, with a pick up from the hotel lobby around 07.00 or earlier if you prefer. Remember we are 8º south of the equator so it can get a bit hot later in the day. Especially if you're trekking through a jungle. An experienced English speaking guide from the Bali National park will then lead you on a expedition to the dark depths of the Balinese jungle/savanna/mangrove.

Length of the trekking can be between 2-7hrs depending on what you would like.
